Tongue out when contact is taken up

My horse has always had an issue with putting her tongue out the left side of her mouth when contact is taken up. It was assumed she did not like tongue pressure from the jointed bit so moved to a happy mouth bit. Unfortunately she is still clamping her tongue out the left of her mouth - any advice on an alternative bit?

Hi Leanne,

It is the Happy Tongue that you are using with your horse? How old is your horse?

If she is older, it could be a habit that she has built up, which needs to be broken first.

Putting her tongue out is definitely a sign that she doesn't like tongue pressure, but instead of taking all the pressure off her tongue, she may prefer if we spread it out evenly over her mouth. I recommend trying the Ultra Comfy Lock Up with her, this bit is double locked so that it doesn't fold downwards to backwards, and it angled on the sides so that it goes up and over the tongue, this greatly reduces the tongue pressure, but doesn't place as much pressure of the bars.
