Biting suggestions needed

My 7 yo mustang mare was recently gathered from the wild and started under saddle. She had extensive dental work done. She is uncomfortable in a metal bit (lots of fussing, head tossing, ducking behind the bit or raising her head above) She was quieter in a nathe, but needs a more solid cheek piece to help her turn. She also felt less connected with the mullen mouth. I'm thinking a flexible, non metal, solid cheek, perhaps jointed bit? Please help!
