bit for strong and lack of steering

gets really strong showjumping and xc and galoping iv tried pelhams and he gets too curled over and short in the neck iv tried hackamore with bit but loose steering

Hi Natalie, Please could you give me a bit more information. What mouth pieces have you tried with him? How did he react to those you have tried? What does he do with his head and neck? - Claire @ Bombers 4 years ago

without further information about the mouth piece in the Pelham, it would appear that your horse is over bending due to the pressure in the mouth and possibly due to the poll and curb pressure of the Pelham.
Therefore we would suggest going to the softest mouth piece, which is the happy tongue with the Williams cheek piece to encourage steering. The rein can be attached to the loose ring part of the cheek piece and if necessary can be fitted to the lower ring which will incur some poll pressure. Once we know how he goes in this, we can assess further.
